...displeasure is something that accompanies all seeing, not just medical photographs ... light itself causes a sensation in the eye - that is, a gentle pain - that enables us to see. It is an interesting thought, this almost invisible daily pain of seeing, and I like to sense its echoes in the urges I have been describing. All seeing, I think, is painful.
